Tokyo at Night - The City

Tokyo comes alive at night. The sun sets (in November) at 5 PM, an early end to the day. But when the lights turn on, the buildings shine. This is a photo blog about the buildings of Tokyo.

This is Art. Well, it's the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and it's a red girder. I call it Art. I was lying on my back when I framed this picture because I thought it looked cool. I had no idea that the colors would be so vibrant. I guess I got the right exposure. Another tourist saw me take the picture; when I showed him the image he said, "Well, I guess some shots are worth working for."
Here's a different photo of the red girder:

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is a two-tower complex. There is a (free) observation deck on the 45th floor (though it's not the top floor.) As the sun set and the lights came on I took several pictures of the skyline:

The tower-like structure on the right is the Tokyo Tower. It was built in 1958 and is a replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. A little strange, perhaps, but it was important for the city as it recovered from World War II.

Shijuku is one of the liveliest places at night. This is a street-level view of the neighborhood:

Some temples and shrines light up at night. The Senso-ji Temple is beautifully lit:

Enjoy!
